This protected area contains natural lakes which are home to 250 species of fish as well as both pink and grey freshwater dolphins. In the jungle and flooded forest of the reserve, 132 mammal species (13 of which are primates), 449 tropical bird species, and 250 reptile and amphibian species have been documented.

The Pacaya Samiria National Reserve is also called “the jungle of mirrors” as it is clearly reflected in the dark waters of its rivers providing the tour visitor an endless feeling of being sailing on mirrors.

The Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve is really appreciated for its great biodiversity of flora and fauna and its incomparable natural beauty. In this regard, the Reserve becomes a potential source for wildlife research and observation, mainly of certain endangered species. However, the Pacaya-Samiria is not only a National Reserve but also a great magic and unexplored territory that you are invited to discover as it provides exciting adventures once you are immersed in it during one of our rainforest tours.

Rainforest Trekking and fishing in the Pacaya Samiria Reserve are just a couple of the many activities that you can do while visiting the Pacaya Samiria Reserve, since you will be able to watch a wide variety of mammals such as the river lion or the Ronsoco (the biggest rodent of the world) and many species of monkeys such as the Black Spider Monkey or the Choro Monkey. Likewise, there are more than 350 bird species such as Toucans and Macaws; and a wide variety of flora as the lupuna tree, which is until 160 ft height and a 10 ft of diameter. All of which can be shown to you by one of our licensed tour guides from Iquitos.

Its rivers, lakes and lagoons provide more than 250 species of fish such as the paiche, the largest fresh water fish in the world, which can weigh up to 250 pounds and measure up to 9 ft in length, as well as the gray and pink colored dolphins.

The Pacaya Samiria Reserve is home to, and protects, nearly all the species native to low lying jungle that are threatened with extinction. The large number of lakes, creeks, and swamps, the large stands of unique untouched forest, and the rich wildlife make the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve an attractive destination for sport fishing, bird watching, eco-tours, scientific expeditions, and adventure travelers.
