DAY 1: ARRIVAL TO CAMP / MONKEY ISLAND / PINK DOLPHIN SPOTTING / CAIMAN EXCURSION :

Early Morning Departure from Iquitos City to Nauta.

Depart Nauta by boat we will travel upriver about 2.5 hours, passing the spectacular meeting of 2 major rivers (Ucayali & Marañon) that come together to from the Amazon River.

During the riverboat trip you will have a great possibility of seeing caimans, turtles, herons, pink river dolphins, snakes, and many other species of flora/fauna along the riverbank until arrival to Maniti Camp.

Lunch will be served at the camp and in the afternoon we will visit Monkey Island, which is approximately 15 minutes away from the Maniti Lodge. Monkey Island is a small island that shelters a large number of monkeys in their natural habitat. During your visit on the island you will have the unique opportunity to observe and interact with a tremendous variety of monkeys in the natural habitat. Along with the various species of monkeys you will have to opportunity to hold a very large Anaconda and interact with the very unique and rare Amazonian Mata Mata turtle. At Monkey Island we will also see boa constrictor, alligator, turtles, Etc.

After our visit there will be a dolphin watching session at the camp where we will have the unique opportunity to see the pink freshwater dolphin, you will also have the chance to swim with them on the main Amazon River. Dinner will be served at the camp.

In the late evening, excursion via canoe to spot and catch caiman, we will have the opportunity to hold, touch, and take photos with the caiman.

Overnight at Maniti Lodge.

DAY 2: DEPARTURE CAMP / IIAP / QUISTOCOCHA PARK / PILPINTUWASI / GIANT LILY PADS :

Early morning departure from camp after breakfast.

At our first stop on our way back to Iquitos we will visit the IIAP (Instituto de Investigación de la Amazonía Peruana) where you will be able to visit with manatees and fresh water dolphins that have been rescued from the Amazon and are being rehabilitated.

Quistococha Zoological Park. This must-see attraction holds a Lagoon with a golden sand beach where you will be able to spot the wild monkeys living in the trees around the lagoon. In the zoo you will find many creatures indigenous to Perú and the Amazon Basin, such as monkeys, snakes, alligators, parrots and tapirs, together with a very well maintained botanical garden.

We will visit the largest aquatic plant in the world (Victoria Regia) along with the largest freshwater fish in the world (Paiche).

Pilpintuwasi Butterfly Farm is the only butterfly farm in Peru. More than 40 species of the most colorful insects of the Amazon thrive at Pilpintuwasi. Visitors learn about the problems with finding a host plant for each caterpillar, the life cycle of butterflies, problems with predators, etc. You will see the rearing of the giant blue Morphos, Helicons, Owl Moths, Swallow tails and many others. Visitors to Pilpintuwasi Butterfly Farm in Iquitos are able to see the complete life cycle, and learn about the impressive development of butterflies.
